This week in nursery has been very exciting! We had a surprise visitor who sneaked into our class when we were out eating our dinner! We found lots of clues around nursery including a hat, a present, white foot prints and even a letter! Together we read the letter, looked at all the clues and thought about who it could be!

We decided it was Santa!
We thought about how we could be sure it was Santa and it was suggested to look at a camera or film!
We were so lucky that Santa had been caught on camera in our very own nursery! We all watched Santa explore our class and even wave to us!

This has inspired us to do some fantastic learning! Lots of children drew their own footsteps on the path out side. Some decided to draw pictures or write to Santa asking him to come back!
Many children were fascinated by the present which said 'do not open surprise inside!'

They all wanted to know what was inside!
We discussed what it could be and tried hard to explain and extend our answers using 'and' and 'because'. We drew pictures and wrote some lovely writing explain what we thought was in the present and why.

Following the children's interest we installed a mini stage to our classroom an the children have loved singing, dancing and acting on the stage and carpet. We have sang our favourite rhymes and songs. We have also listened to music from different cultures and spoke about how the music made us feel and how this changed how danced! Many of the children were very interested in the new music and asked the adults to show then on a world map where it came from.

We have also started learning new songs and lines for our nativity production and the children are all very excited!

Here are some pictures of us singing, dancing and acting from last week:

We had our first class birthday this week and as it was Mrs Simpson's birthday the children have wanted to learn all about birthdays! We have completed a range of activities themed around birthdays in our play including wrapping presents, making our own wrapping paper, writing invitations and thank you cards, making birthday cakes using lots of different resources!

In our focussed activities we have been looking at the months of the year and when everyone's birthday is. We have also been looking at how old we all are and the children were fantastic at talking about their age and how they celebrate their birthdays at home.
